This Vintage 18 Foot 1968 FAN Road Chief Travel Trailer has been meticulously restored. FAN Travel Trailers were made in La Grange, Indiana and, as a higher end brand, were very well constructed.

This one-of-a-kind Vintage Travel Trailer was carefully taken down to the framing; the walls, ceiling and floor were re-framed where required to restore it's “bones” to like new condition. A vapor barrier was applied and new insulation keeps it warm enough to be in the trailer during the winter here in Minnesota! There is not enough space provided to give potential buyers a “play-by-play” of the restoration and list everything that was done. However, these are some of the highlights.

The Exterior:

The aluminum skin and roof are in remarkable condition for it's age. The aluminum was primed and painted with aluminum specific industrial products from Sherwin Williams. To protect the trailer from leaks Gardner Sta-Kool Elastometric roof coating was applied. This coating not only protects from leaks but also keeps the trailer cooler during hot weather. The near mint Hehr dual action windows are in near mint operating condition, the entry and rear compartment doors were re-framed and strengthened and the original Bargmann L100 lock was restored/re-keyed by a professional locksmith. The brakes were cleaned, removed and inspected (plenty of miles left on on the drums) and re-wired. The wheel bearings are in excellent condition and were re-packed, and new STS Tow Master tires makes her ready for the open road. New Elkhart Tool and Die Two-Step Folding Steps welded to trailer frame.

The Interior:

When entering the trailer one will quickly notice the incredible woodwork, the attention to fine details of the restoration and quality build of FAN Travel Trailers, the new custom crafted seat/bench cushions and window treatments (These were made using new vintage old-stock fabric where possible), the high-end electric fireplace and the ample storage space provided by the design. The interior was carefully removed and the wood floor, kitchen cabinets and bench seats were restored. The walls and ceiling were redone with birch plywood. The Road Chief featured a unique rear “L shaped” kitchen that provided considerable more kitchen space than what was usually provided in most travel trailers of this size. A unique counter-top was constructed using reclaimed wood on a plywood base and sealed with epoxy that provides a sharp shine as well as sealing the cracks making it cooking appropriate and a classy addition to the kitchen. The bathroom features corrugated metal on the walls with a light weight flat rock floor.

Sleeps 3-4: The front sofa pulls out to make a full size bed and the dinette will sleep 1 or 2, with the table lowered. The new Garelick/EEz-In Adjustable Table base allows the table to be adjusted to the desired height.

Electrical - The trailer was re-wired and new electrical service installed, upgraded to 30 amps by a professional electrician. The vintage light fixtures were all rewired. The 12 volt lighting system is all new: wiring, harness (7 – Way Plug and Cable), junction box, marker lights and stop/turn signals.

Heating – The old clunky-very inefficient-propane guzzling furnace was removed. Heat is provided to the trailer by a Napoleon Azure 38 Inch Vertical Fireplace*. It does a nice job of heating the trailer here in Minnesota but it also provides nice ambiance with it's special lighting features. The fireplace function can be used with or without heat. If the new owner also desires to install a new propane heater it would be an easy addition as the line is accessible.

Propane - The propane system is new in it's entirety, and was hooked up by a licensed professional. This includes tanks, pigtail connects, copper line in conduit and a new Two-Tank Automatic Changeover Regulator.

Plumbing – The entire plumbing system is new utilizing PEX tubing and accessories as supply lines. The new plumbing system is completely accessible if additions or repairs are ever required. This is a great feature not only for ease of access but also for there NEVER being a hard to find plumbing leak. A new (tested, but not used) Laveo Dry Flush Toilet* eliminates the odors, need for a black tank and the nasty task of dumping and cleaning. Quality fixtures were used in the kitchen (Pfister “Pasadena” with a lifetime warranty) and bathroom (Kingston). On demand hot water is provided by the Eco Smart Mini-Tankless Electric Water Heater*.

Appliances – The vintage Magic Chef range was restored and tested by a professional. A new Magic Chef 3.5 Cubic Foot Refrigerator* featuring glass shelves and a closed freezer compartment/
