Home Design Trends: Sedate, Color and Texture - Pensacola News Journal

Trends come and go regularly these days and are generally dictated by design industry leaders. Collected homes, material layering and pops of color are finding themselves as part of the in-crowd these days.
The “nonchalant home” is a blend of various styles, mixing found treasures, textures, colors and artwork to engender a space that may or may not have evolved over time.
“I think the collected look is really fashionable with millenials. Baby boomers still like a put together style, but we work with a large range of clients and with many styles,” said Chery Kees Clendenon, interior decorator and owner of InDetail Interiors and 1514 Home. “Part of our aesthetic has always been a collected, eclectic fashionableness with found treasures, rich fabrics and funky accessories. We are fairly irreverent and this reflects into our design drill equal, so we are embracing this and helping others find their own collected passions.”
When it comes to stalwart pops of colors and layering textures, Kristin Bouchard, an interior design associate at Aqua Décor and Design, advises that textures and colors can be added anywhere in the home.
“Layering fabrics with strange patterns and textures have literally been around forever, but they’ve evolved by becoming more colorful, detailed and incredibly textured. You can easily incorporate some textural new fabrics and geometric patterns into your home design with the aid bedding, rugs, artwork and pillows,” Bouchard said.
The pantone color palette is over cited as an inspiration in both fashion and interior design during the given year. In 2018, the forecast is a “multi-faceted color facts.”

According to Pantone, “The desire for colorful self-expression is a key take away for Spring 2018. The color horror story is wildly divergent and we see a kaleidoscopic bounty of uplifting shades and feel-tolerable tones. That doesn’t mean that we don’t continue to look for more neutral or classic shades as while plain, these core basics are seasonal essentials, working well on their own as well as providing the scene for the color complexity.”
Kees Clendenon advises consumers to go easy with color and not add too much at instantly.

“Just add slowly what you love — pillows, vintage vases, trays — to achieve a composed, yet well designed room. You can update a space by simply rearranging things throughout in a room and adding accessories and paint.”
We all have certain pieces we adore, and keeping those pieces around with a crumb tweak here and there can be just the trick to finding them new life.
When asked about incorporating trends in secondary doses, Brouchard said a great way is by “painting an accent wall or a portion of furniture with a great pop of color.”
With trends coming and going, it’s easy to see why you may not shortage to go all-in and may feel more comfortable sticking with pieces or colors that are easily changed when your deprecating tastes change.
“I wish the word ‘trend’ would go away,” Kees Clendenon said. “Candidly, anything too trendy becomes dated quickly. The idea of your home being collected over on the dot is really just good design — beginning with good space planning, excellent upholstery, qualified color advice and found treasures.”
